Growing Your Minions

Your minions are your longest-lasting source of power. Most level-up cards vanish when a life ends, but a minion’s level, stars and awakened form all stay with you. This page walks through every stage of minion growth in order — getting new minions, Enhance, Awaken, Ascend and Legion Resonance.

  • Tap the Altar of the Damned statue in the village to open the minion screen. Your deck, the minion roster, detail views and the deck synergy strip all live here.
  • When the statue glows, there’s growth you can do right now. It lights up only when you have the materials to unlock, enhance, awaken or ascend something. Minions stuck at their level cap don’t trigger it, so a glow always means a real action.
  • Minion levels survive Reincarnation. Gold and fragments you spend now keep paying off in every future life.
  • Every minion has its own fragments. Collect enough fragments and gold and you can unlock it.
  • A locked minion’s slot shows the stage range where its fragments drop. Tap the slot to open the unlock window, which shows the fragments and gold you need and where to find them. Once you meet the cost, press Unlock to perform the unlock ritual and welcome your new minion.
  • Unlocking has no stage requirement. Even if Reincarnation rolls back your progress, you can unlock a minion whenever you have the materials.
  • Elite minions can’t be unlocked with fragments. You get them by awakening a normal minion.
  • The enemies in the labyrinth are the same species as your minions. Defeat an enemy of a species and it drops that species’ fragments.
  • Elite enemies drop fragments of their base normal species.
  • Each species has a stage range where its fragments drop, and the species you meet change as you go deeper. Outside that range, killing the species gives no fragments.
  • When a minion’s species doesn’t appear on a floor, other enemies drop its fragments instead.
  • The first time you reach a floor where a new species’ fragments begin to drop, a New Summon Unlocked banner appears once. Check Monster Intel on the stage select screen to see which enemies appear on which floors.
  • Use Set Farming Focus on the stage select screen to pick one species; its fragments will drop more often.
  • You can only focus a species whose fragment range you’ve already reached. Species you haven’t met yet can’t be chosen.
  • A focused species keeps dropping fragments even on floors outside its usual range. That’s handy when you want to raise an early minion while farming deeper floors.

Soul Refinement on the minion screen converts spare fragments into another species’ fragments.

Condition Conversion loss
Always You always lose part of the amount.
Converting into a species you haven’t unlocked The loss grows.
Converting into a higher-tier species The loss grows.
The more race, role and element they share The loss shrinks.
Refining many times in one day After a certain number of refinements an extra surcharge applies; it resets daily.
  • Very small amounts can’t be refined. Now and then a lucky refinement yields a little extra.
  • Treat refinement as a backup for when you’re in a hurry. Farming directly with Set Farming Focus is usually more efficient.
  • Enhance raises a minion’s level using gold and that minion’s fragments. It never fails, and the cost grows with each level.
  • A minion’s detail screen shows growth slots that open with level. When the minion reaches the listed level, a new skill or stat bonus is engraved, announced by a card reveal. You can see each minion’s skills in the Minion Codex.
  • Normal minions stop at their awakening level. Pressing Enhance there shows “Awaken to ascend further.” Once awakened, they can keep growing up to the elite form’s higher cap.
  • When a normal minion reaches its level cap, you can Awaken it. You choose one of two elite forms, and the awakening choice screen lets you compare both forms’ stats and signature skills.
  • It costs that minion’s fragments and gold.
  • Level and stars are kept, and the elite’s signature skill unlocks.
  • An awakened minion becomes an elite, so in battle it needs an elite or boss corpse. If none is nearby, it’s summoned through a substitute ritual that consumes several normal corpses.
  • Reset Awakening severs the pact and returns the minion to its normal form. Level and stars are kept.
  • The reset costs gold and fragments, and what you paid for the original awakening is not refunded. To take the other elite path, you pay that path’s awakening cost again.
  • You can change paths, but it’s expensive — compare carefully on the awakening choice screen before you commit.

Only awakened minions can Ascend. Each star needs a certain level plus that minion’s fragments and gold. Every star adds its own trait, and the effects stack.

Star Ascension Trait Effect
★1 Swift Predation Attack speed increases.
★2 Bloodlust Health and attack increase.
★3 Relentless Hunt Move speed and range increase, and summoning costs less Command.
★4 Unholy Wrath Health, attack and attack speed increase together, and summoning costs even less Command.
★5 Awakening Every combat ability is strengthened across the board, and summoning costs less Command again.

Leveling makes the same stats bigger; stars change how the minion fights. Raise both level and stars on your main minions.

  • Your Legion Resonance level is the sum of all your unlocked minions’ levels. Minions outside your deck count too.
  • As Resonance grows, your maximum Command increases, up to a limit. Raising many minions lets you field a bigger legion at once.
  • At certain Resonance levels, permanent milestones unlock, each announced with an engraving card.
Milestone Effect
Blood Frenzy A badly wounded minion briefly gains a large attack boost and maximum life leech.
Cycle of Bone Gear and runeword options that grant Command when a minion dies start working, and sometimes your next Corpse Explosion doesn’t consume its corpses.
Descent of the Abyss Minion max health and attack are greatly increased at all times.
Chain of Ruin Corpse Explosion chains extra times with a wider radius, and minion attack is massively increased at all times.

Tap the Legion cell on the minion screen’s deck synergy strip to see your Resonance level and the next milestone. A NEW badge appears on the cell when a new milestone unlocks.

  • Your deck has 3 summon slots. Select a minion and press Equip to add it.
  • If the deck is full, press Swap and choose the slot to replace.
  • Mixing roles and elements activates deck synergies. See Commanding the Legion for the rules.
  • Need a new species? Check its fragment range in Monster Intel, farm that range and turn on Set Farming Focus.
  • Don’t raise only your main minions. Levels on minions outside your deck still feed Legion Resonance, adding max Command and milestones.
  • Awaken thoughtfully. It can be undone, but the original cost isn’t refunded. Remember that more elites in your deck means more demand for elite corpses.
  • From ★3, summoning costs less Command. Ascend your main minions to field more soldiers with the same Command.
  • Follow the statue’s glow. If it’s glowing, you have materials you can spend right now.
  1. Trying to grow minions with Essence. Enhance uses gold and that minion’s fragments.
  2. Waiting for fragments outside the range. Outside a species’ fragment range, killing it drops nothing. Keep Set Farming Focus on.
  3. Relying on Soul Refinement. Conversion always loses some fragments, and refining many times a day adds a surcharge.
  4. Mashing Enhance at the level cap. Normal minions need to Awaken to grow further.
  5. Panicking when an elite slot won’t summon. Awakened minions need elite corpses. Without one, perform the substitute ritual with several normal corpses.
  6. Thinking Reincarnation resets your minions. Unlocks, levels, stars and awakenings are all kept.
