Zones & Affixes

The labyrinth runs through 11 zones and 200 stages. Each zone has its own mood, main elements, enemies and loot, and from the first boss floor onward an affix makes enemies tougher. Above all, the labyrinth’s enemies are the same species as your own minions. Knowing which enemies appear in which zone lets you collect the fragments of the minion you want far faster.

  • The first five zones have 10 floors each; the last six have 25 each. Pass a zone’s last floor and the next zone opens.
  • The deeper the zone, the stronger the enemies, and the better they shrug off slow, stun, bleed and vulnerability.
  • Before choosing a floor, compare its main element with your own resistance in Monster Intel. It reads VULNERABLE when your resistance is lacking, UNSTEADY when it’s a little short, and PREPARED when it’s enough.

  • Mood is the zone description shown in Monster Intel, and signature options are the options that roll especially often on that zone’s gear. You can check them, together with the gear slots that drop most, on the Spoils bar of the stage selection screen.
  • Void Sanctum rotates its main element from floor to floor. Always check that floor’s element in Monster Intel.
  • From the Carrion March on, the bulk of the enemy force shifts from skeletons to zombie hordes.

A boss blocks the way every 10 floors and on a few special floors. The bosses are four wardens. You first meet them in turn on floors 10, 20, 30 and 40, and each time the First Death tells you about that warden once. After that, the four wardens return in rotation, stronger each time.

Boss How it fights Loot tendency
Bone Marshal Charges through your front line and detonates a wide red-circle area attack that stuns briefly on a hit. Calls adds and marks one of your minions to hunt it down. Corpse Explosion gear
Grave Ritualist Brands corpses and harvests them to heal and raise more adds. Uses a small, fast red-circle area attack. Summon / Bleed gear
Grave Tax Collector Fights behind a retinue of adds, brands corpses and charges. Uses a small, fast red-circle area attack and marks your minions to hunt them. Command gear
Soul Legate Commander of the wardens. Mixes charges, summoned adds, corpse branding and harvesting (to heal) and minion hunts, but never uses a red-circle area attack. Teleport gear

  • On boss floors, the floor button on the stage selection screen carries the boss’s portrait.
  • How to dodge the red circles, boss rewards and the ceiling are covered in Floors, Combo & Grades, and each boss has an entry in the Boss Codex.

An affix is a rule applied to a whole range of floors. When you enter a floor, the affix’s name and effect appear in the Stage Effects banner, and you can preview it in Monster Intel on the stage selection screen.

  • The first nine floors have no affix; from the first boss floor on, there is always one.
  • Early on it changes every 10 floors, and the ranges get longer as you go deeper. From the Carrion March on, there is one per zone.
  • The boss floor of an early zone already carries the next range’s affix. That’s why boss floors feel one step harder.
  • Floors with an affix pay more clear gold and essence to match the danger. Monster Intel shows the increase as extra Spoils.

The labyrinth’s enemies share the same names and looks as the minions you command.

  • Killing a skeleton enemy drops that species’ minion fragments. Kill a Boneblade and you get Boneblade fragments; kill a Bone Archer and you get Bone Archer fragments.
  • Elite enemies drop the fragments of their base, pre-evolution species. For example, killing a Marrow Reaver gives Boneblade fragments.
  • Each species has set depths where its fragments drop, and some come back again in later zones after skipping one. Even if an enemy shows up earlier, it drops no fragments outside its species’ range. Bone Archers first appear in the Crypt of Hunger, but their fragments only start late in the Frosted Reliquary.
  • When you reach the depth where a new species’ fragments first drop, a New Summon Unlocked notice appears with Fragments drop from this depth.
  • Zombie enemies have different names from your minions. Killing zombie hordes drops fragments of minions available on that floor, mostly zombie minions. Zombie minion fragments start dropping at the very end of the Void Sanctum.
Zone Main minion fragments
Bone Catacombs Boneblade, Bonewall (end of zone)
Crypt of Hunger Boneblade, Bonewall
Frosted Reliquary Bonewall, Boneblade, Bone Archer (late in zone)
Plagueswamp Bone Archer, Bonewall, Boneblade
Wraith Hollows Bone Archer, Skeletal Warrior (late in zone), Bonewall
Abyssal Gate Bone Archer, Skeletal Warrior, Bonewall, Boneblade, Frost Hex (late in zone)
Void Sanctum Boneblade, Bonewall, Bonebinder, Frost Hex, Rot Bulwark (end of zone)
Carrion March Bone Archer, Rot Bulwark, Rot Cleaver
Cinder Pyre Skeletal Warrior, Frost Hex, Plague Mancer, Rot Cleaver
Frostgorge Frost Hex, Bonebinder, Charnel Blade, Frostgorge Hulk
Umbral Glut Rot Bulwark, Frostgorge Hulk, Void Caster, Plague Mancer

Void Caster fragments only drop in the Umbral Glut. Check each minion’s role and evolution path in the Minion Codex.

Tap the Spoils bar on the stage selection screen to open Loot Details, then tap Set Farming Focus on the Summon Fragment Distribution tab to pick one minion.

  • Fragments of the chosen minion become more likely. Only normal minions you’ve already unlocked can be chosen.
  • Even on floors outside the chosen minion’s fragment range, its fragments sometimes drop once you’ve passed the depth where it first appears. Farming inside its range is still far more efficient.
  • You can change or clear it at any time for free. The setting is saved on your device.
  • Check the fragment distribution first. Find the zones that drop the minion you want in Loot Details, then pick a floor there that you clear comfortably.
  • Stack the ways to get more fragments. Pacts like Plague Pact and Soul Famine greatly increase the fragments in your clear rewards, and a good necro grade adds more. Fragments from battle chests are mostly for minions in your deck.
  • Don’t let elites slip away. Elites drop fragments more readily than normal enemies. Affix ranges that add elites are dangerous, but great for fragment hunting.
  • Match your resistance to the main element. In zones where Monster Intel shows VULNERABLE, raise that resistance before you go in.
  • Pick gear zones by signature options. For a Corpse Explosion build try the Bone Catacombs; if you need item finding, the Abyssal Gate or Void Sanctum.
  1. Farming a zone that doesn’t drop the fragments you want. Seeing an enemy doesn’t mean its fragments drop there. Check the Summon Fragment Distribution tab.
  2. Hunting zombie minions by enemy name. Zombie enemies have different names from your minions. Pick zones by the fragment distribution.
  3. Panicking when a zone’s boss floor feels unusually hard. Early zones’ boss floors already carry the next affix.
  4. Letting the boss harvest corpses. Use branded corpses first and the boss staggers.
  5. Not checking the element in the Void Sanctum. Its main element changes every floor.
